David Matthews – President / Founder

David Matthews is the President and Founder of the Colorado Chaos Basketball Club, Inc., one of the largest and most respected AAU programs in the nation. Matthews was one of the youngest people in the history of the state of Colorado to be a President of a non-profit organization when he founded the Colorado Chaos in 2000. He is widely regarded as the premier basketball mind in the entire Rocky Mountain Region and one of the biggest advocates and hardest workers for the promotion of Colorado prep basketball you will find. Through the years, hundreds of college coaches and scouts have come to count on his expertise concerning Colorado prep basketball.

The Colorado Chaos Basketball Club is the premier AAU program in the Rocky Mountain Region with a total of nine elite boy’s teams, ranging in age from 12-17. Over the past eleven years Colorado Chaos teams have produced an un-paralleled 285 collegiate athletes, 83 of whom are playing at the Division I level and two whom are playing in the N.B.A. To date, Colorado Chaos players have earned over ten million dollars in scholarship money towards achieving their higher education. Colorado Chaos teams have played in eighteen different states and every continental U.S. time zone in order to obtain exposure with college coaches and gain valuable experience playing against the top competition in the country. The Colorado Chaos is one of the most respected AAU programs in the country by college coaches and scouts. The program is one of only four programs in the Mountain Time Zone, and the only Colorado program, to be ranked as one of the top 75 AAU programs in the country each of the past seven years, including finishing the 2008 season ranked 22nd in the country, the 2009 season ranked 37th in the country, the 2010 season ranked 34th in the country and the 2011 season ranked 17th in the country. To date, the program has won fourteen major national tournament titles, including eight in the past three years. The Colorado Chaos is also the only AAU program in the region to be affiliated with Under Armour Grassroots Basketball.

In addition to the Colorado Chaos, Matthews runs the premier events in the region, including the Rocky Mountain Fall Showcase all star games, Top of the Rockies and Colorado Elite Eight tournaments, Colorado Elite League and the Colorado Elite Camp and Colorado Fall Shootout camps. The Rocky Mountain Fall Showcase all star games have become the biggest single event in the state and attract over 1,000 spectators and countless college coaches and scouts annually. The Top of the Rockies is the premier AAU tournament in the region and the only tournament that has gained recognition in some of the nation’s top basketball publications and last year’s Top of the Rockies tournament was the largest tournament in Colorado history.

Matthews also writes for various websites and scouting services, including Rivals.com, Scout.com, ESPN.com, Hot100Hoops.com, Prep Colorado, Prep West Hoops, Colorado Preps and the West Coast Hoops Report. He has also been published countless times in national and regional publications, including the Denver Post, Rocky Mountain News, Colorado Springs Gazette, Pueblo Chieftan, Fort Collins Coloradoan and Cheyenne Eagle, amongst many others.

Cassadi Matthews – Administrative Assistant

Coach Matthews is in her third season with the Colorado Chaos. She has been instrumental in the day-to-day operations of the program and works extremely hard keeping the books straight and managing teams and parents when traveling. She also is a gym manager at all of the Colorado Chaos events throughout the year.

For the past two seasons, Matthews has coached in the ThunderRidge girls feeder program where she inspired her teams to play well beyond their abilities. She helped the players develop into some of the most talented players in the state who are all seeing success at the high school level now. Prior to joining the ThunderRidge program, she coached both boys and girls basketball at Tongue River High School in Dayton, Wyoming. While there she had multiple duties, including coaching an un-defeated junior high girls team and helping as a program assistant with the boys varsity team. After leaving the program to move home to Colorado, the girls proceeded to win a state title the following season.

After a strong high school career at Alameda High School, Matthews continued her playing career at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. She then finished her degree at the University of Wyoming with a degree in Elementary Education. She is currently a Brain Trainer for Learning RX in Denver and is also a substitute teacher in a few school districts. She currently lives in Littleton with her husband David, who is the President of the Colorado Chaos Basketball Club.
