Brett Cloepfil – 17’s Elite

Coach Cloepfil is in his fourth season with the Colorado Chaos and his second year coaching the powerful 17’s Elite team. In his first year with the 17’s Elite team in 2011, Cloepfil led the squad to a Colorado Chaos record 50 wins and won multiple national level tournaments. His team also was the first team in Colorado history to not lose a single in-state game and seven of the nine players on the team signed their national letters of intent during the early signing period.

 

In the high school ranks, Coach Cloepfil began his career as an assistant at Pueblo South, under legendary coach Dave Lockett.  At South, the Colts enjoyed an Elite Eight run followed by an appearance in the state championship game. In the two years Cloepfil was at South, the Colts compiled a 51-3 record. More recently, Coach Cloepfil has been the varsity assistant at Standley Lake High School under Chaos coach Mike Puccio for three seasons. This past season, Cloepfil helped lead the Gators to a school record 16 wins and their first playoff win in ten years. The Gators also had a 14 win improvement from the previous season, which was the largest win improvement in the state.

 

As a player, Cloepfil played at Colorado State University at Pueblo under coaches Joe Folda and Pat Eberhadt.  He was named to the R.M.A.C. – West All Conference team his senior season. Cloepfil also set a school record with 41 straight made free throws, and led the RMAC in free-throw percentage. For his career, he shot 41.1 percent for three-point range and 90.4 percent from the free throw line. Off the floor He received the Harry S. Simmons Scholarship Award his senior year, which is given annually to the standout male student athlete at the university. Cloepfil was also recognized as an academic all-conference selection in two different seasons at CSU-Pueblo.

 

Cloepfil is a graduate of CSU-Pueblo with degrees in Exercise Science and Communications. He is a native of Greeley and currently resides in Westminster, where he works as an engineering consultant.

 

Ian Calvert – 17′s Elite

Coach Calvert is in his first year with the Colorado Chaos. He will help coach the 17’s Elite team this spring and summer.

 

Calvert has been the head coach at Aurora Central High School for the past five seasons where he has developed the program into one of the premiere high school programs in the state of Colorado. While at Aurora Central, he has guided the Trojans to 88 wins in the past five seasons. His teams have won three league titles, advanced to the Final Four once and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen three times. Prior to his time at Aurora Central, Calvert spent six years as an assistant coach at his alma mater Warren High School in Downey, California. During that time he was also a coach with the renowned Los Angeles Rockfish AAU program. In addition, he was the Head of Basketball Development with the Southern California Basketball Academy for four years.

 

Calvert was born and raised in Downey, California. He is a graduate of Cal State Dominguez Hills with a degree in History and Political Science. He currently lives in Denver with his wife Megan and his three children; Isaiah and twins Lily and Gwen.

 

Chad Belveal – 17’s Blue

Coach Belveal is in his sixth season with the Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 17’s Blue team this year after coaching the 16’s Elite team last summer. Over Belveal’s Colorado Chaos coaching career, he has won over 150 games and numerous tournaments.

 

Belveal has been a high school coach for 18 years and a head coach for 13 years. He has a reputation as a program builder, having taken three non-winning programs to league prominence and state playoff berths. Belveal started his coaching career at Wray High School, where he took the Eagles to the state playoffs three consecutive seasons after a 30 year hiatus from the state playoffs. When he left Wray, he had more wins than any other coach in Wray basketball history. Following his career at Wray, Belveal moved on to coach at Air Academy High School. In his second season Coach Belveal took the Kadets to the state tournament after 12 years of missing the playoffs. Belveal’s Kadet team then returned to the playoffs for a second straight season, marking the first time they made the playoffs in consecutive seasons since 1989.

 

Belveal then took the head coaching position at Cheyenne Mountain High School, where he guided the Indians to 48 wins in three seasons and turned them into a perennial league title contender. The year before he arrived at Cheyenne Mountain, they won only 5 games. In his first year at the helm, he guided the Indians to 18 wins. The 13 win improvement from the previous year was the most of any team in the state that season. His teams were also ranked in the Top Ten for much of his tenure and advanced to the 4A Sweet Sixteen two times.

 

Belveal is currently a Dean at Wasson High School in Colorado Springs and is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado. He and his wife Joanne have three boys, Robbie, Kai and Tory, all of whom are either current or former Colorado Chaos players.

 

Nick Gill – 16’s Black

Coach Gill is entering his first season with the Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 17’s Black team this spring and summer.

 

Gill is one of the brightest young coaches in the state. This past season he was a part of the Standley Lake coaching staff with fellow Colorado Chaos coaches Mike Puccio, Brett Cloepfil and Alex Miller. Gill coached the Gators 8th grade team this year while running the Standley Lake feeder program as well. As a player, Gill has an impressive resume that includes playing at Colorado Christian University under coach Dave Daniels and playing at Faith Christian High School under legendary coach Andrew Hasz. While at Colorado Christian, Gill was an All-Conference selection in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. While at Faith Christian, Gill won a State Title and was an All-State and All-Conference selection multiple times.. Gill is also a former Colorado Chaos player. He played on the top Colorado Chaos team at his age every year he was in the program and he is also a member of the prestigious Colorado Chaos 1,000 Point Club.

 

Gill is currently finishing his degree in Sports Medicine and lives in Lakewood.

 

Marc Gorenstein – 17’s White

Coach Gorenstein is in his second season coaching the Colorado Chaos. He will coach the 17’s White team this year after coaching the 16’s Black team last season.

 

A former Chaos player, Coach Gorenstein played basketball for four years at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he was a two-year starter and key contributor on teams that won over 60 games during his career. After completing his four years of basketball he stayed for half the 2010 season to be an assistant coach with the program. He left Iowa after his student teaching was done and continued to be an assistant coach for the Silver Creek High School boys program under head coach Bob Banning.

 

Following his tenure at Silver Creek, Gorenstein began coaching the girls program at Clear Creek High School, where he is currently the Junior Varsity coach in a program that won 18 varsity games this season. He is currently in his second year of being an elementary Physical Education teacher in the Clear Creek School district and lives in Littleton.
