CLASS OF 2011 (SENIORS)
The Class of 2011 has some very talented players and excellent depth of talent and they showed very well in the event. They placed seven players on the All Event Team and some of the top seniors in the state really showed why they were so highly recruited in the event. Jordan Gregory (62 PG Pueblo East Committed to Montana) led the way and was named the Top Upperclassmen in the event. He is headed to the University of Montana next year and should have an excellent career for the Grizzlies. Hes a strong, quick and smart point guard who loves to push the ball on the break. He has a knack for scoring and also finds his open teammates very well. In addition, his intangibles are great and hes an excellent leader and floor general.
Brett Olson (65 CG Highlands Ranch Committed to the University of Denver) was also very good in the event. He is continuing to grow and develop and has all the makings of a wonderful college player for coach Joe Scott at the University of Denver. Olson is a lights out shooter who is very long for his position and showed his great court vision in the event. Cameron Michael (65 SG Loveland Committed to the Air Force Academy) also had a good camp. Hes one of the best shooters in the region and can score in bunches. Hes crafty around the rim and a great rebounder and defender. His ball handling has continued to improve as well, which should make him a versatile player at Air Force who should have a great college career. Chris Hansen (64 SG Fossil Ridge) was also fabulous in the event. Hes also a lights out shooter and uses his thick frame to score well around the rim as well. After missing last season with a broken leg, hes completely back and better than even now and seems poised to have a huge year and see his recruitment pick up tremendously.
Craig Saltarelli (511 PG Fairview) made a nice showing in the CEC. Hes a heady point guard who does just about everything right. He handles and shoots the ball well and is one of the best passing point guards in the state. His court sense is also fantastic and he should be able to make an RMAC school very happy. The final two seniors to make the All Event Team are very similar and somewhat under the radar guards. Trei Dysart (62 SG Pinnacle Charter) is a strong and versatile guard who is a talented natural scorer. Hes strong for his position and does a good job of attacking the glass for offensive rebounds. Daniel Versteeg (60 CG Pueblo East) is a strong, athletic wing who scores well going to the rim and is a tenacious perimeter defender. Hes one of the most underrated guards in the state and will team with Jordan Gregory to make an imposing backcourt for Pueblo East.
CLASS OF 2012 (JUNIORS)
The junior class in Colorado is very strong and they proved it in this event, placing six players on the All Event Team. This group was led by Stone Hood (63 SG Discovery Canyon). He has had an outstanding fall and seems poised to take the next step and be one of the elite players in this class. Hes a lights out shooter with a thick frame and great work ethic and has improved as much as any player in the state in the past six months. Joining him is another player who has had a strong fall, Alex Welsh (66 SF Pomona). Hes a versatile mid sized player with a ton of upside. He can bang inside on both ends of the floor as well as shoot and handle the ball well on the perimeter. He should have a huge junior season and see his recruitment pick up very soon.
Charles Smith (510 PG Mullen) is as quick with the ball as any player in the state. He loves to push the tempo and has a knack for scoring going to the rim and in traffic. Some added strength will help boost his stock. Garrett Bryant (66 SF Fossil Ridge) is poised to have a breakout junior season. Hes a strong, active player with a great motor and a lot of upside and easily one of the most underrated players in this class. Derek Karg (64 SF Sterling) had a breakout performance in the event. Hes a strong, active blue collar player who just gets it done. He scores well around the rim and uses his strength to be an effective defender. The final junior to make the All Event Team was Eric Rayer (61 SG Coronado). Hes a great shooter who plays hard and has improved his ability to put to ball on the floor and attack the rim. Hes also a great defender and should be one of the best juniors in Colorado Springs this season.
Other Juniors who played well but didnt quite make the All Event Team include Drake Kennedy (60 CG Grandview), Nick Ongarato (62 SG Broomfield), Brandon Applehans (510 PG Standley Lake) and Sean Durck (62 SG Classical Academy). Also, Kai Belveal (62 SG Cheyenne Mountain), Michael Zeller (63 SF Green Mountain) and Brad Chaco (63 SG Golden) would have made strong cases for the All Event Team if they were able to attend the entire camp.
CLASS OF 2013 (SOPHOMORES) AND 2014 (FRESHMEN)
The Underclassmen in the event made a very strong showing. This group was led by Carlton Hurst (63 SG Aurora Central), who was named the Top Underclassmen in the event. He was simply fantastic in the camp, especially on Sunday. Hes a strong, athletic, agile player who never seems to stop working hard and helping his team win. Hurst can score at the rim very well and has a solid jump shot that keeps defenders honest. With some added development he should be a nice prospect. The other sophomore who made the All Event Team was Alex Terpstra (64 SG Denver Christian). Hes one of the best shooters in the state with a quick, silky release. He is very long for his position and has improved his ability to attack the rim. He should be one of the top scoring sophomores in the state this season. One freshman, Chances Matlock (63 SF Falcon), made the All Event Team. Hes a very nice looking prospect with a ton of upside. Hes long for his position and does a great job of attacking the rim and crashing the offensive glass. If he continues to grow, he should be a very nice college prospect.
Other underclassmen who played well but didnt quite make the All Event Team include Nick Giordano (61 CG Littleton 2013), Tyler Loose (60 CG Laramie 2013), Mickey Petersen (60 SG Legend 2013), Dylan Clark (511 SG Sand Creek 2014) and Ryan Cook (62 SF Cheyenne East, WY 2014).
